Green custom service coat named to Holcomb and dated 1941. All orginal to the General with the exception of stars which were added.
On 1 December 1936 Thomas Holcomb became Commandant of the Marine Corps a position he held for close to eight years. Holcomb was arguably one of the two most important men to fill that position up to that time. With the entry of America in WWII the Marine Corps numbered about 16,000. General Holcomb oversaw the expansion to roughly 300,000. While he did not create the amphibious program which made the Marine Corps an outstanding success during the war in the Pacific, Holcomb definitely made sure the Corps was ready for it.
General Holcomb became a Lt. General in 1942 and a full General in 1944, both ranks being the first in USMC history.
